Russian-Georgian meeting without mediators scheduled for Dec.14

Georgia, Tbilisi, Dec.13 / Trend, N.Kirtskhalia / A Russian-Georgian meeting without mediators, the first since the 2008 war out of "Geneva negotiation format" will be held in Geneva on Dec.14, Georgian Prime Minister's special representative on settling relations with Russia, Zurab Abashidze told journalists at the airport on Thursday. He reiterated that the meeting will be of a technical character. "The format of negotiations, their frequency and willingness to hold meetings in new format will be discussed during the meeting," he said. In Geneva Abashidze will meet with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, who yesterday attended the Geneva talks on prevention of tension in the Caucasus. Military action was launched in the Georgian region of South Ossetia on Aug.8, 2008. Later Russian troops occupied the city of Tskhinvali and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognised the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
