Sheikh Mohammad chairs Cabinet meeting on government performance

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has urged UAE government bodies to intensify efforts in improving standards of governmental performance and developing policies. Sheikh Mohammad said that this approach, which is in line with directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, aims to achieve the Emiratis’ ambitions for development, and further enhances the competitiveness of the UAE in all fields. Sheikh Mohammad made the statement during a Cabinet meeting on Sunday at the Presidential Palace. Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and other senior officials were present. On the occasion of the new school year, Sheikh Mohammad extended to students his best wishes for success, and said that striving for education is the national duty of every Emirati. He reaffirmed that the UAE leadership is committed to present Emiratis with the best standards of education in order to prepare them for life’s future challenges and maintain the UAE’s leading position in the coming years. “The standard of education we want is one that is based on innovation and developing the leaders of tomorrow in all walks of life, so that the graduates can continue the founding fathers’ march of development,” said Sheikh Mohammad. During the meeting, the Cabinet approved a draft federal law on amending some bylaws of the civil procedures law of 1992. The draft law aims to serve justice to litigating parties through a new set of bylaws, such as developing the system of the lawsuit department to store lodged complaints electronically. The new bylaws also grant litigants the authority to present their appeal before the court that issued the ruling. The new draft law aims to enhance the UAE’s competitiveness in the field of judicial work, and to facilitate the procedures of settling lawsuits in courts in order to ensure that the process is completed as quickly as possible for both residents and Emiratis. The Cabinet passed a resolution to set up the board of trustees for the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia). The board will be chaired by Abdullah Ghobash, and will consist of eight other board members. The Cabinet also approved civil aviation agreements with Finland, Uruguay and Niger, as well as the UAE’s second contribution to the International Monetary Fund’s Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
