Songkhla beefs up security
SONGKHLA, Oct 8 (TNA) -- Local security agencies in the southern province of Songkhla have beefed up security at risk areas, as there are various important symbolic days during the month of October.
The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Songkhla Office increased security in risk ares, including the provincial seat, Hat Yai, Sadao districts as well as at four districts along the border of Chana, Thepa, Natawee, Saba Yoi districts, after security intelligence agency has warned the province to be on extra alert.
The increased in security came after the source said the group of local insurgents has completed the building of one car bomb and is planning to initiate violence the three southernmost provinces, as well as Songkhla.
Concerned security agencies in Songkhla have now been ordered to beef up security around the connecting area between Thepa and Nong Chik districts in Pattani province.
Authorities believe that since there are various important symbolic days in the month of October, including the establishment of the BRN on October 10, the establishment of PULO or the Pattani United Liberation Organisation on October 12, and the Tak Bai incident anniversary on October 25, insurgents are planning to operate violent missions to celebrate these days.
The Songkhla security office has reiterated to all concerned officials to be on extra alert both at night and during the day, as well as to carefully observe weak targets and Thai Buddhist communities. (TNA)
