STATE SECRETARY MEETS UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs G.Tsogtsaikhan received on Monday Ms Magdalena Sepulveda Carmona, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights. Ms Carmona has arrived here at an invitation of the Mongolia's government to get au fait with the present situation of people who live in a lower standard of living and to check measures being taken by the government for improving the living standard of them. At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the social welfare policy realized in recent years, measures to be taken by the government, joining and realizing international agreements and contracts on human rights, and the present poverty situation and its factors in Mongolia. The State Secretary noted about a requirement of reducing the poverty rate in order to fully realize the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and said the poverty situation in Mongolia has own features. Then he underlined an importance of Ms Carmona's visit as Mongolia has been nominated as a candidate in the 2015 election for the United Nations Human Rights Council. Within her visit, Ms Carmona plans to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Population's Development and Social Welfare and other state organizations, NGOs. At the end of the visit, a press conference will be called and a policy recommendation will released to submitted to the Human Rights Council. Ch.Enkhtuya
