Survey shows not many people know about new charter's content

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) -- With about two months away for a public referendum on a draft constitution, slightly more than half of total respondents still do not know details of the draft charter, citing the lack of PR campaigns by the government, according to a survey conducted by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University. The Suan Dusit Poll has conducted survey on 1,182 people across Thailand between June 6 – 11 and found as many as 53.3 per cent of the total respondents admitted that they had only a slight knowledge of the draft constitution while 46.7 per cent of them said the charter is the supreme law of the country and it provides people rights protection. Asked what would people receive from the charter, about 78.4 per cent said freedom and equality while 73 per cent said the country would become stable with peace. Up to approximately 56 per cent of the total respondents said they still did not know what kind of reform being undertaken by the government because they did not have enough time to follow the news. Asked whether they believe their life would be improved from the new constitution, 50.51 per cent said nothing would be changed because it took time to improve the living of people, especially national economy is still dull. 36.55 per cent of respondents said reforms in several sectors would improve situation in the country as well as boosting people confidence on economy. But 12.94 per cent said problems and chaos would erupt again after an election because politicians would seek benefit for themselves rather than helping the people. (TNA)
