Swiss ambassador summoned over U.S. act of aggression

TEHRAN, Dec. 10 (MNA) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Swiss Ambassador Livia Leu Agosti on Thursday to protest about the recent violation of the country’s airspace by a U.S. spy drone. Iran and the United States do not have diplomatic relations and the Swiss Embassy in Tehran hosts the U.S. Interests Section in Iran. Iran announced on December 4 that an advanced RQ-170 unmanned U.S. spy plane had been downed by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic but did not say when the incident occurred. In the protest note that was delivered to the Swiss ambassador, Iran said that the U.S. move was in clear contravention of international law and regulations and was an act threatening regional and world peace and security, and the Islamic Republic holds Washington accountable. The Foreign Ministry’s protest note asked the U.S. government to provide an explanation as soon as possible. It also said that the U.S. government will be responsible for the consequences of such actions and that Tehran reserves the right to pursue the issue.
