Syria Appreciates Iran For Hosting Confab On Syria

Damascus, August 14, IRNA -- Syria on Monday appreciated Iran for hosting consultative meeting on Syria. Syrian Ministry of foreign and Immigrants Affairs in a statement thanked the participants in the conference held in Tehran on August 9. 27 countries, were represented in the Conference on Syria, calling for settlement of Syrian crisis by national dialogue and democratic means. The participants said in a final statement that any solution to the crisis should be based on respecting international law, lack of interference in Syrian internal affairs and respecting the Syrian national sovereignty and territorial integrity. It said the conference aimed to prepare the ground for national reconciliation in a democratic atmosphere. The statement also indicated Kofi Annan’s six-point peace plan and United Nations Security Council decisions, expressed grave concern over the continued violence in Syria which has caused massive destruction in the country and deep problems for the nation. It also voiced sympathy with the families of the victims of the armed clashes and terrorist actions. Representatives from Belarus, Mauritania, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Benin, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Algeria, Iraq, Zimbabwe, Oman, Venezuela, Tajikistan, India, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Nicaragua, Cuba, Sudan, Jordan, Tunisia and Palestine attended the conference./end
