Syrian national council head says Syria on the threshold of a big clash

DOHA (A.A) - February 13, 2012 - Syrian National Council Chairman Burhan Ghalioun said that Syria was on the threshold of a big clash between al-Assad administration and Free Syrian Army. Free Syrian Army has limited means in struggle against Syrian regular army to protect the civilians, said Ghalioun who spoke to AA in Qatar on Monday. Noting that they welcomed the decision of Arab League to send UN-Arab joint peace force to Syria, Ghalioun said that the decision was an important step which was taken against al-Assad administration. He expressed belief that Syrian administration would regret that it rejected previous decisions by Arab League. Noting that al-Assad regime was on the threshold of collapse, Ghalioun said, "many political and military officials from Syrian regime are in contact with us." Tens of people are being killed everyday during attacks of Syrian army in Homs, Hama and Zebdani cities, said Ghalioun, adding that those massacres should immediately be stopped. Ghalioun said that Turkey and some Arab and Western countries, which supported Syrian people after veto of Russia and China in the United Nations Security Council, launched an initiative under the title "Syrian People Friendship Initiative".
