Syrians vote for new constitution

DAMASCUS (A.A) - February 26, 2012 - Syrian people went to ballot boxes on Sunday on a new draft constitution as 11-month-old violence continued in the country and amid opposition calls for a boycott. The voting began 7:00m a.m. Syrian local time for Syrians over 18 years of age at more than 14,000 polling stations as pro-Assad demonstrators gathered in support of the regime at a Damascus square.  "This is a democratic and moderate constitution," a woman named Nadia Ayyub told the Anadolu Agency as another woman said "a democratic future awaited Syria under the leadership of Assad."    Whereas opposition members gathered late Saturday in Damascus' Duma suburb, protesting the vote and burning a booklet of the draft constitution.
