Thai Defence Minister welcomes Laotian counterpart

BANGKOK, Jan 26 (TNA) -- Thailand's Deputy Premier/Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon has welcomed his Laotian counterpart on Wednesday, where both sides had discussed the progress of military cooperation with an aim to strengthen ties between both sides. Thai Defense Ministry spokesman said that Gen Prawit met his Laotian counterpart, National Defense Minister Lt Gen Chansamone Chanyalath and his entourage during their official visit to Thailand as guests of the Defense Ministry at the Defense Ministry on Wednesday morning. Defense spokesperson said the ministers had held talks on the cooperation between both countries' military, targeting to progress the relationship and strengthen it through various cooperation mechanism which have been continually and jointly developed to solve major problems that affect both neighbours' national security, such as drugs problem, transnational crimes, illegal migration, as well as cyber security to facilitate safety for both the people of both countries along the borders. The spokesman noted that at on Thursday at 8.30am, the 2nd Thai-Lao General Border Committee (GBC) meeting would be held at the Anantra Siam Hotel in Bangkok. Both Gen Prawit and Lt Gen Chansamone would jointly preside over the meeting to follow up on the progress of joint operations, as well as to jointly consider further cooperation on security along the Thai-Lao border to create stability, peace, and improve the living conditions of both countries.
