Thailand, Cambodia to jointly develop peaceful borders

BANGKOK, March 30 (TNA) – The 12th Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) ended today successfully, reflecting strong relations between the two countries, particular between militaries and both countries are determined to promote peace at border areas for stability and security, said Defense Ministry spokesman Kongcheep Tantravanich. Defense spokesman disclosed the results of (GBC) Meeting in Siem Reap, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister/Defense minister Prawit Wongsuwan that the deputy prime minister reaffirmed Thailand’s intention to cooperate with Cambodia to develop peaceful border as well as cross border economy for better quality of life of people of the two countries. Meanwhile, his Cambodian counterpart Gen Tea Banh, who also chaired the meeting, thanked the Thai government for tackling problems and regulating systems related to migrant workers including Cambodian workers as well as for protecting and providing proper welfare for laborers. Regarding border issues, Gen Tia Banh said officials of the two sides should directly contact each other for any cooperation, reiterating that the bilateral relation is now at the best and both countries should work together to maintain this stance, according to the Thai defense spokesman. During the two –day GBC meeting, the two sides acknowledged reports on progress in jointly security operations at border such as immigration work at checkpoints, labour and agriculture cooperation, and illegal drug prevention and suppression. The two countries agreed to hold the meeting of the committee to maintain order at Thai-Cambodian border to be chaired by Thai and Cambodian top brasses. (TNA)
