Thailand celebrates Constitution Day
BANGKOK, Dec 10 (TNA) -- December 10 marks the Constitution Day in Thailand and many politicians, civil servants and the general public are seen laying floral tribute to the statue of His Majesty the late King Prajadhipok, also known King Rama VII, who signed the first Constitution for this country.
Celebrations for the Constitution Day were hosted by the Secretariat of the House of Representatives at the statue in front of the parliament building.
Several leading politicians including Abhisit Vejjajiva, a former prime minister and leader of Thailand’s oldest political party, the Democrat Party, acting Pheu Thai party leader Police Lieutenant General Wiroj Pao-in and Constitution Drafting Committee chairman Meechai Ruchupan were among those presence laying floral tribute to King Rama VII.
His Majesty the late King Prajadhipok presented the first Constitution to Thailand on December 10, 1932, changing the country into constitutional monarchy from absolute monarchy system.
His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, or King Rama X, is scheduled to lay floral tribute and light candles to pay respects at the statue this evening. (TNA)
