Thailand complies with UN to sanction North Korea

BANGKOK, Oct 18 (TNA) -- The deputy prime minister who supervises security affairs assures that Thailand is boycotting North Korea in line with a resolution of the United Nations. Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said that Thailand was following the UN’s resolution and already reported its action to the UN. He was responding to the reports that the European Union announced that Thailand was among 12 countries that had not observed the UN’s resolution to impose sanctions on North Korea. There were a handful of North Korean businesses in Thailand and the government would ban North Korea from starting new businesses in the country, Gen Prawit said. Regarding the EU’s stance, he said that might be because Thailand was reporting its sanctions on North Korea to the UN. He also said that Thai-North Korean relations would not be affected because Thailand was following the resolution of the UN. (TNA)
