BANGKOK, Oct 5 (TNA) – Thailand will provide five million baht of financial contribution each to Myanmar and Bangladesh to assist both governments’ support for people, affected by violence in Myanmar's Rakhine state which has caused hundreds of thousands of Rohingya civilians to flee to Bangladesh. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Busadee Santipitaks said having monitored closely the humanitarian situation in Rakhine state, Thailand has recognized the need to assist people in conflict-affected areas in Myanmar and refugees in Bangladesh. Moreover, Ms Busadeethe said another five million baht will be given to the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide food, temporary shelters and healthcare for refugees. For the neighbouring country of Myanmar, Thailand have constantly provided assistance such as financial contribution and other forms of assistance through bilateral projects to support basic infrastructure to raise people’s quality of life. In the framework of tripartite cooperation, including Japan, many development projects have been implemented to create jobs for people such as initiating aquaculture breeding programmes and introducing the late King Bhumibol’s sufficiency economy principle to local people, so they can have sustainable occupations.
