'Threat against threat’ is Iran’s new defense doctrine: IRGC official

TEHRAN, Nov. 29 (MNA) – A top IRGC commander announced on Monday that Iran is adopting the “strategy of threat against threat” in the face of new threats against the Islamic Republic by Israel and the U.S. as its main ally. “Based on the strategy of threat against threat, which was pronounced recently by the Supreme Leader, we are revising our defense doctrine… and this revision meets all our needs for a reliable defense and strong deterrence,” Hossein Salami, deputy commander of The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, told reporters. Salami, who was speaking on the sidelines of the national basij seminar and passive defense, also said, “The fact that we have not allowed the enemy, despite all its intelligence capabilities, to find about our real power” shows the importance of passive defense. He also said the pro-democracy movements in the Middle East and North Africa are a result of flawed policies of the United States and its allies in the region. The commander also said uprisings in the region have been inspired by the Islamic Revolution of Iran.
