A threat to IRGC is a threat to Iranian people: Iranian minister

TEHRAN, Nov.8(MNA) – Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps is a popular institution and a threat against it by the United States is in fact a threat against the Iranian people. The remarks by the interior minister came after a former U.S. general and a former CIA agent called for the killing of IRGC commanders in retaliation for Iran’s alleged role in a plot to kill the Saudi ambassador to Washington, a claim vehemently denied by Iranian officials. Mohammad-Najjar said making such remarks reflects the “arrogant nature” of U.S. officials and is indicative of the fact that they always adopt an “aggressive approach” in dealing with countries that do not behave according to their desire. Through making such remarks the world will realize that “U.S. officials themselves are the true terrorists,” the minister pointed out. The minister also said Iran has taken the measures necessary to counter the assassination plots devised by the Unites States. According to Firstpost, at the Congress’s Homeland Security Committee on October 26, Jack Keane, a retired four-star general who helped plan the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq, called for the killing of leaders of Iran’s Qods Force. “Why don’t we kill them? We kill other people who are running terrorist organizations against the United States,” he said. The other witness, Reuel Marc Gerecht, a former CIA officer who is now a senior fellow at the neo-conservative think-tank the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, also said, “I don’t think that you are going to really intimidate these people, get their attention, unless you shoot somebody.”
