Tunisia's success is one of regional peoples' and Turkey's, says FM Davutoglu
ANKARA (A.A) - January 10, 2012 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Tuesday that the Tunisian people had to be proud of the Jasmine Revolution.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Tunisian counterpart Rafik Abdessalem in Ankara, Davutoglu said that they viewed Tunisia's success as one of the regional peoples' and Turkey's.
I am pleased to host Minister Abdessalem in Ankara. His visit carries symbolic importance as this is his first official trip overseas, Davutoglu said.
At a time when our brothers and sisters in the region have entered a period of change, we look at Tunisia's success as one of the regional peoples' and Turkey's, Davutoglu noted.
During our talks with Abdessalem, we discussed Turkey-Tunisia relations and regional issues, Davutoglu said.
We are on the edge of January 14, the day of the Jasmine Revolution. We hope that this process continues by blossoming jasmines, Davutoglu also said.
Minister Abdessalem, in his part, said that his trip to Turkey was his first official trip overseas after assuming his duties as the foreign minister of Tunisia.
We do not consider Turkey as an overseas destination. Our two countries have deep rooted historic ties, Abdessalem said.
Our two countries can cooperate in various fields and build a bright future together, Abdessalem noted.
We can cooperate in diverse fields such as industry, infrastructure, service sector, and tourism. Tunisia is an attractive location for investors, Abdessalem stressed.
Reminding that there was an administration in Tunisia that came to power after elections, Abdessalem said that Tunisia was able to establish political stability and that his country was a safe place.
We are ready to cooperate with Turkey in all fields and increase our mutual trade volume, Abdessalem said.
There is a lot we can learn from Turkey's experiences. Turkey is a rapidly growing regional power. Turkey is a great power that attracts not only Tunisians but the whole region, Abdessalem underlined.
Touching on Syria, Abdessalem said that they were against violations of human rights and the massacre of civilians.
