Turkey's economy minister says expects Germany to change attitude on Ankara's EU bid

BERLIN (A.A) - February 8, 2012 - Turkish economy minister has said German chancellor's opposition against Turkey's European Union accession bid hurt Turks, adding that Turkey expected "a friendlier attitude" from Germany.
"Turkey is important to Germany just as much as Germany is important to Turkey. I hope the German attitude would change," Zafer Caglayan told Turkish reporters over a breakfast in Berlin.
Caglayan said there were millions of Turks living in Germany which he said constituted a bridge that raised Turkey's expectations from Germany.
"It is only natural for us to expect from German leadership more support than any other country had ever extended to our EU bid and certainly much friendlier relations," Caglayan said.
When asked about a planned free trade agreement between Turkey and South Korea, Caglayan said the two countries had made progress to pen the agreement.
"I am happy to share with you the news that we have achieved significant progress over the free trade agreement. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had expressed hope that he would be pleased to sign the agreement during his visit to South Korea on March 26 and 27," Caglayan said.
