Turkish parliament speaker says not possible to rule country on contrary to nations' demands

ANKARA (A.A) - January 11, 2012 - Turkey's parliament speaker said on Wednesday that it was not possible for anybody to rule a country on contrary to demands of nations. Cemil Cicek said whatever to be done could only be achieved with the support of the nation. "Tunisia is the best example to this," Cicek said during his meeting with Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdesselam in Ankara. Cicek said Turkey closely monitored movement that began in Tunisia and affected the Middle East, particularly North African countries, and wished it would bear good results. "We appreciate election of the parliament with people's will, and then election of the president and parliament speaker (in Tunisia)," he said. Cicek said transparent and fair elections held in Tunisia in October 2011 had raised Tunisia's prestige in international community. Parliament Speaker Cicek said Turkey would always stand by Tunisia, and hoped bilateral relations would improve and Tunisia would have a better future than today. Also speaking in the meeting, Abdusselam said revolution in Tunisia had been more peaceful and successful when compared with other countries, and noted that there were many things Tunisia would learn from Turkey. "We believe that a transparent and democratic government is very important norms in this age, and we want to make use of Turkey's democracy experiences," Abdusselam said. Abdusselam also said Tunisia would succeed in its democracy experience with Turkey's support.
