Turkish parliament speaker says Turkey has effective role in international organizations

PALEMBANG (A.A) - February 1, 2012 - Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek said on Wednesday that Turkey had effective roles in several international organizations.
Speaking to AA correspondent regarding the 7th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Indonesia, Cicek said that they were pleased that Mahmut Erol Kilic was re-elected the secretary general of the Union.
Cicek said that he held talks with parliament speakers of some countries within the scope of the conference.
Developments in North Africa and the Middle East have been discussed in the conference, he said. "We had opportunity to explain Turkey's stance on these developments and the country's concerns during the conference. We said that governments ignoring demands of their people cannot govern their countries," he said.
Cicek said that Turkish delegation exerted great efforts for inclusion of a paragraph on the law on Armenian allegations that was adopted at the French Senate and views regarding the Cyprus issue in the final declaration of the conference, and the delegation succeeded.
In regard to the Cyprus issue, Cicek said that it must be solved in the first half of 2012, stating that Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was the party in Cyprus who wanted a solution, but it was still dealing with several problems. "It was mentioned in the final declaration," he said.
