UAE calls on ILO to promote balance of interests among three production parties

Geneva, June 13, 2013 (WAM) - : The UAE has called on the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to strike balance of interests among the three production parties: governments, employers and workers through encouraging dialogue in line with the organisation's endeavour to promote the social dialogue at the national level of member states.
UAE Minister of Labour Saqr bin Ghobash made the remark today during the general session of the ILO in Geneva in the presence of UAE Permanent Representative to United Nations in Geneva, Mubarak Saeed Al Dhahiri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, Humaid bin Dimas, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry for Labour Affairs and members of the UAE delegation to the 102nd session of ILO.
The session attended by Malawian President Joyce Banda and delegates, focused on discussion of the report prepared by the Director General of ILO on advent of 100 years since the inception of ILO. The report addresses future challenges of labour markets and the organisation, and how best to tackle them.
Ghobash said the UAE government appreciates the report, which detects challenges and policies that could enable the ILO address them and achieve its objectives. He referred to the challenges that would face labour markets due to the demographic changes, which could be tackled through provision of appropriate job opportunities to the new workforce, especially those coming from South Asia and the Middle East. "We agree with the report. The Gulf region faces these challenges- a situation that requires policies to create more jobs." He noted that the decisive factor for maintaining the ability of ILO to discharge its historic role "does not lie in interaction with criticisms issued by foreign authorities, but on striking the balance of interests among the three parties." – Emirates News Agency, WAM
