UAE participates in 3rd meeting of Advisory Committee for Child Rights in Cairo

CAIRO, 16th September, 2015 (WAM) -- The UAE is participating in the 3rd meeting of the Arab Advisory Committee for Child Rights, which began yesterday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League The meeting is being held to discuss the first draft of the Arab strategy for the advancement of the situation of children in the Arab world after 2015, headed by Jordan.
The meeting is being attended by Ambassador Enas Makkawi, Director of Women, Family and Children's Department of the General-Secretariat at the League of Arab States, with the participation of representatives of national authorities involved in children's issues in the Arab region, as well as a number of regional organisations working in the field of children's rights and a number of experts at both the legal and social level in the field.
Ahmad Ibrahim, Director of Protection of Children's Rights Department at Sharjah Social Services Department, Fatima Musa Al Bloushi, Director of Corporate Performance Management at the Department and Dr. Sheikha Mohammed Al Mulla, Representative of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, represent the UAE at the meeting.
Makkawi, said that the preparation of the Arab League for the Arab strategy for the advancement of the situation of children of the post-2015 coincides with the recent wave of displacement witnessed by a number of countries in the Arab region, which proved that children are bearing the great brunt of displacement consequences because of wars.
The two-day meeting will discuss the general framework of the strategy, which will be as the Arab agenda for the advancement of the situation of children in the Arab region during the period 2015 to 2030.
The committee also discussed a number of children's issues such as children with disabilities, managing the risks posed by disasters and other topics on its agenda.
The aim of the presentation and discussion of the general framework of the Arab Strategy for the advancement of the situation of children in the Arab region comes in preparation for the launch of a unified Arab strategy of dedicated commitment to the care and the rights of the Arab child in times of peace and war, within an integrated system including the fields of education, protection, prevention and health. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395285574564.html
