UAE spares no effort to fight transnational organised crime
Abu Dhabi, June 25, 2013 (WAM) - The world community needs to join forces to address challenges facing security and stability and counter transnational organised crime, a senior UAE security official stressed yesterday.
Brigadier Mohammed Al Kitbi, Director-General of the Federal Criminal Police, Ministry of Interior, said organised criminal gangs were abusing modern technology in developing their methods, techniques and modus operandi and the international community must come together to stop them.
Al Kitbi told the meeting of the first GCC workforce on supporting international legal cooperation against transnational organised crime in the GCC, that the UAE is making significant efforts to boost cooperation to combat organised crime both regionally and internationally.
Hosted by the UAE in association with GCC Secretariat-General and the Vienna based United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the three-day event aims to explore the best mechanisms to bolster the GCC's capacity to counter international crime.
Resident UNODC Representative in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Hatem Ali, said the GCC region was facing tremendous challenges in combating cross-border crime given its strategic geographic location.
He noted that UNODC is working diligently to implement programmes that build the capacities of law enforcement agencies in the GCC and modernise their mechanisms to fight crime in all its manifestations. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
