UAE takes part at International Conference on Genocide Prevention in Brussels

Brussels: Abdullah bin Mohammed Saeed Ghobash, Minister of State has chaired the UAE delegation at the International Conference on Genocide Prevention in the Belgian capital, Brussels. The Government of Belgium is holding the two-day conference in cooperation with the African Union, the European Union and the United Nations. More than 500 participants from over the world discuss ways and means to rid mankind of the scourge of mass atrocities and genocides, 65 years after the adoption of the "UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide" (1948). Academics, legal experts, representatives of civil society and parliaments work to reach understanding on early and systematic information about risk situations. They will make proposals to the participating States, Regional Organisations and the United Nations on how to diffuse risk situations, how to stop incitements to violence before they spiral out of control into senseless bloodshed and mass atrocities, as well as legal instruments and political action to prevent genocide. Suleiman Hamed Salem Al Mazrouei, Head of the UAE Mission to EU, UAE Ambassador to Belgium and Yaqoob Yousif Al Hosani, Director of the Department of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the opening of conference. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
