Geneva, May 30, 2013 (WAM) - : The United Arab Emirates has welcomed findings of the report submitted by the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations on trafficking, particularly women and children, which referred to the progress made by the country in combating trafficking in persons.
In a speech delivered before the 23rd session of the Human Rights Council, Sheikha Al Zaabi, First Secretary of the UAE Permanent Mission in Geneva said that the UAE had held a constructive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur Joy Ngozi Ezeilo on trafficking during her visit to the country between 11 and 17 April and welcomed her openness and collaboration with civil society.
She expressed appreciation of the recognition by the Special Rapporteur of the achievements made by the United Arab Emirates.
"The United Arab Emirates is taking all necessary measures to continue to combat trafficking in persons, including the protection of victims, the punishment of perpetrators, and collaborating on an ongoing basis with the international community." "A fund had been created to provide support to the victims of trafficking, and the United Arab Emirates continues to cooperate with origin and destination countries.
