UN Chief Condemns Assassination Of Iranian Scientist

Beirut, Jan 15, IRNA – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for support for human rights and added that assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist is a terrorist action.
Ban Ki-moon, in a press conference here on Saturday, underlined that killing of ordinary people or scientists is not accepatbale and must be condemned.
He called Lebanon a country with high level of effectiveness in the region and added that the country is an important player in establishment of peace and stability in the Middle East.
The secretary general continued that Lebanon has an important position for him and the United Nations.
He said that importance of maintaining peace and stability in Lebanon becomes more evident day-by-day and that is why he has chosen Lebanon as the first country in his tour to the region.
Referring to the current situation in Syria and the Arab League initiative for settling crisis in Syria, the UN secretary general underlined that he is keeping an eye on Syrian developments carefully and supports the league efforts and initiative in this concern.
Referring to the role of army in south Lebanon, he underlined that he is pleased that Lebanese army is trying to maintain peace in Lebanon with UNIFIL forces./end
