UN Special Rapporteur to get acquainted with situation of internally displaced persons in Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi, June 10 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / UN Special Rapporteur Chaloka Beyani will be in Georgia from 10 to 14 June to get acquainted with the situation of internally displaced persons and to gather information on the measures taken by the authorities for improving the situation of this population category, the Georgian office of the UN Told Trend on Monday. According to the information, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Chaloka Beyani will hold meetings with representatives of government and civil society within the framework of his visit to Georgia. He will visit the places of settlement of internally displaced persons, as well as meet the representatives of the local authorities. "During the visit, I will conduct the review of implementation of recommendations made by my predecessor in 2010," Beyani told journalists on the eve of his trip. He added that he will get acquainted with the process of the "supposed changes in the legislation regulating the situation of internally displaced persons in Georgia."
