UNDP praises Thailand for being role model to implement Sufficiency Economy

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) -- The top executive of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) called upon Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha yesterday and gave her admiration to Thailand as a role model to uphold His late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's royally initiated Sufficiency Economy philosophy to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Deputy spokesman of the Prime Minister's Office Lt Gen Weerachon Sukonthapatipak said the UNDP highest executive Ms Helen Clark had called upon the premier at the Government House on Friday. The UNDP executive expressed her deepest condolences for the passing of the former King and expressed gratitude to Thailand for always providing a great support to the UNDP. The premier in response, said the deputy spokesman, admired the UNDP for its strong role in Thailand and ASEAN, and expressed his appreciation to the UNDP for choosing Thailand as a connecting point into the region, noting that this is considered as an important step to strengthening the relationship between both sides. Ms Helen then said Thailand's usage of the Sufficiency Economy philosophy to achieve the MDGs are admirable, expressing firm believe that the Thailand's 4.0 scheme would surely help pushed the country out of the middle income trap. The Thai premier also informed that Thailand give great importance to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by creating a 20-year national strategic plan, as well as the 12-year national economic and society development plan, both of which are focused on successfully achieving the SDGs. He further noted that Thailand is more than willing to share its experiences and successes with world countries to help all countries move forward with developments without leaving anyone behind.
