Uzbek President appoints new head of Andijan administration

According to Uzbek President Islam Karimov's decree, Shuhratbek Abdurahmanov was appointed governor (head of administration) of Andijan region. Earlier, he was an acting governor.
Abdurahmanov replaced Ahmad Usmanov, who was appointed governor of Tashkent region in early April.
Abdurahmanov was deputy governor on agriculture and water resources in Andijan region before his appointment.
Andijan is located in the Fergana Valley (east of Uzbekistan). Its area hits 4,200 square kilometers (less than one percent of the country's area), the population - about 2.7 million people. Andijan is the smallest, but the most populous region in Uzbekistan.
It includes 11 towns, 5 settlements and 95 villages.
It is a large industrial center of the country. There are construction, textile, mining enterprises and mineral resource processing enterprises, including oil and gas produced at Andijan, Palvantash, South Alamysh, Khartum, Bustan and Khojausman oil and gas fields on its territory.
The largest and most well-known company in the Andijan region is GM Uzbekistan plant in Asaka.
