Western Gov'ts Must Change Stand On Iran Nuclear Program: IRNA Chief

Berlin, March 28, IRNA – The western governments ought to review their stand on Iranian nuclear program, Iranian president's advisor Ali Akbar Javanfekr said. He said in an interview with German weekly, Stern, that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is optimistic about the upcoming nuclear talks with the western governments. Javanfekr said that the western governments have failed to understand Iran's interest in international cooperation, dialogue and understanding, a policy upheld by the Iranian president. Stern reporter, Stephen Gassel, asked Javanfekr to comment on President Ahmadinejad's statement about fate of Tel Aviv regime and the failure of nuclear talks in Istanbul in 2011, Javanfekr said that the western governments have no other option but to change their approach toward Iranian nuclear program. Elaborating on reasons for failure of nuclear talks, Javanfekr said that the US and the European countries wanted to impose their own views rather than developing international cooperation with Iran. 'It is a wrong approach which brought the nuclear talks to a standstill from the beginning. That's why the negotiating parties lost opportunities.' Asked about the western governments' military threat against Iran, Javanfekr said, 'Who can invade Iran, Iran has strong defensive power in the Middle East. We have made great achievements in nuclear and missile technology.' Citing Iran's strong defense capability, Javanfekr said that Iran has put satellite into the space and brought down US advanced stealth reconnaissance aircraft. 'There are many wise personalities in the United States who avoid war with Iran. The wise Americans will finally overcome the mad people in Tel Aviv.' On national politics, Javanfekr highlighted President Ahmadinejad's popularity and said that the people are satisfied with his government which worked for the country's economic, cultural and social development./end
