President Sadyr Zhaparov receives SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming
Bishkek, May 12, 2023. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov received on Thursday Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Zhang Ming, who arrived to participate in SCO International Issyk-Kul Marathon.
An exchange of views took place on the priority areas of cooperation within the SCO, further development of cooperation between the member countries of the Organization in the field of ensuring regional security, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
The Kyrgyz eresident expressed gratitude to the Secretariat of the Organization for the support and participation in the SCO International Issyk-Kul Marathon, emphasizing that holding such sporting events makes a significant contribution to deepening friendship and mutual understanding between peoples, as well as to positioning the SCO in the international arena.
The head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches exceptional importance to its participation in the SCO and confirms its readiness to further deepen cooperation with the member states of the Organization in all areas of interaction.
The Kyrgyz side reasonably promotes the demanded and important proposals within the framework of the SCO. In particular, in order to ensure regional security, combat terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and transboundary organized crime, it is necessary to complete the establishment of the Center for Combating International Organized Crime in Bishkek.
He stressed that the Kyrgyz side is working to organize consultations of interdepartmental delegations of the SCO member states to discuss the creation of this Center.
At the same time, Sadyr Zhaparov noted the need to strengthen joint measures to ensure cybersecurity, as well as the practical implementation of the adopted documents in the field of international information security. As the main priorities of cooperation within the framework of the SCO, Kyrgyzstan considers the practical implementation of all the reached agreements, as well as signed documents.
In addition, the head of state mentioned the importance of continuing the process of creating effective financial mechanisms, in particular, the creation of the Development Bank and the SCO Development Fund in order to implement economic projects. It is also necessary to continue joint work to improve the quality of transportation by all modes of transport. In this vein, the speedy practical implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project is seen as very important.
Touching upon the issue of reforming the SCO, President Zhaparov noted that in order to implement the Decision of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO “On improving the activities of the SCO”, the member states of the Organization began to work out proposals for further reforming the Organization.
“The Kyrgyz side also supports this process and considers it important to carefully study and jointly carry out the necessary work on the comprehensive improvement of our Organization,” Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized.
In turn, the SCO Secretary General thanked the Kyrgyz side for the warm welcome and the opportunity to take part in the SCO International Issyk-Kul Marathon, which is very popular in the international sports arena.
Zhang Ming also comprehensively informed Sadyr Zhaparov about the ongoing work of the SCO Secretariat, about the state of interaction within the SCO in all areas.
The SCO secretary general highly appreciated the approach of the Kyrgyz Republic under the leadership of President Sadyr Zhaparov to the activities of the Organization, which is a high degree of solidarity, unity and cohesion within the SCO. He noted that Kyrgyzstan actively participates in various programs and makes a great contribution to promoting the development of the Organization.
At the same time, Zhang Ming assured that the Secretariat would continue its efforts to promote and coordinate the implementation of the decisions of the Heads of SCO Member States.
The parties expressed hope for further strengthening of fruitful cooperation within the framework of the SCO on all key aspects of the SCO's activities and its promising areas.
