Qatar Chamber: Numbers of Land Transport Companies in Country Rise to 444 in 2022

Doha, September 20 (QNA) - The member of the Board of Directors of Qatar Chamber and Chairman of the Services Committee, Engineer Ali bin Abdullatif Al Misned, revealed a five-fold increase in the number of land transport companies in the country, rising to 444 companies in 2022 compared to 69 companies in 2018. This came in a speech he delivered at "Sustainable Transportation and Legacy for Generations" Conference and Exhibition which concluded Its activities Tuesday.
Engineer Al Misned proposed establishing a company specialized in land transport management in partnership between the public and private sectors, noting the importance of strengthening initiatives between these two sectors in transport and communication projects in the country in general.
" The private sector has sufficient capabilities, capabilities and experience that qualify it to participate effectively in these projects, as it is the true partner of the public sector in the development process," he said.
The member of the Board of Directors of Qatar Chamber and Chairman of the Services Committee referred to the success of the State of Qatar in establishing a global transportation infrastructure, establishing a smart land, sea and air transportation system, developing an integrated and advanced network of internal and highway roads throughout the country, and modern and environmentally friendly means of transportation according to the latest technological technologies that support sustainable development.
He pointed out that this major development became clear during the country’s hosting of a number of major events, most notably the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, by providing sustainable means as an alternative to traditional transportation options for transporting fans through buses, the Doha Metro, the light tram network and electric buses, in addition to constructing and developing sidewalks and bicycle paths.
Engineer Ali bin Abdullatif Al Misned reviewed the role of the Qatar Chamber Services Committee, as the committee studies the obstacles and challenges facing the land transport sector and finds solutions for them.
The Chamber also, upon request, submits proposals to develop the sector. In addition to bridging viewpoints between the public and private sectors, through his membership as a representative of the private sector in the Heavy Transport Committee at the Ministry of Transportation. He pointed to the importance of unifying the efforts of the private sector in the field of land transportation, as the number of land transportation companies increased from 69 companies in 2018 to 444 companies last year, an increase of about five times.
Al Misned stressed that Qatar Chamber attaches great importance to sustainable development, as the Chamber seeks through its activities to promote this concept in the business community and encourages business owners to adhere to its principles. He explained that during 2020, the Chamber joined the United Nations Global Compact, which is the largest global initiative to achieve Sustainability in companies, as the Chamber will raise awareness of the private sector about this initiative and push it to participate in it.
The two-day "Sustainable Transportation and Legacy for Generations" Conference and Exhibition," contributed to exchanging experiences, discussing opinions and presenting visions and ideas with the Ministry of Transportations partners concerned with developing the transportation sector and the most important plans and strategies towards a comprehensive and gradual transformation into an integrated, sustainable, and environmentally friendly transportation system.
