Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, June 10 (QNA) - The Qatari newspapers shed light on several local and Arab issues, focusing on Qatar's great role in solving the challenges facing humanity and highlighting the supplementary agreement between the State of Qatar and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to establish the United Nations regional center for combating cybercrime in Doha. In their editorials on Saturday, the newspapers emphasized the strength of the partnership between Qatar and the UN, the country's role in supporting multilateral diplomacy, and its contributions to achieving the UN's three goals and pillars - sustainable development, international peace and security, and human rights. The papers reviewed Qatar's international status as the capital of international cooperation and the strong role of the wise leadership that believes in the necessity of standing together to solve global crises by mobilizing all the elements to bring about change in the world, particularly in marginalized societies, as Qatar harnessed its diplomatic efforts to settle security, peace, and development in the world, especially in the least developed countries. In its editorial titled "Qatar leads international efforts to enhance cybersecurity," Al Raya said that Qatar's strategic partnership with the UN reflects positively on international security, peace, and stability, as Qatar believes in multilateral international action to face global challenges in terms of Security, combating crime and terrorism, addressing its roots and causes, and supporting communities and countries most in need to meet development challenges, providing quality education and basic health care. The paper added that Doha has become the capital of international cooperation, by hosting the United Nations House, which includes 12 international offices, and work is underway to host more offices of UN agencies. It pointed out that Qatar maintains its international leadership as a forum for multilateral action and a reliable platform for dialogue and cooperation to face global challenges, especially leading international efforts to enhance cybersecurity at a time when the world is becoming increasingly aware of the importance of preventing and combating cybercrime. In its editorial titled "Qatar and the UN... a solid partnership," Al Sharq said that the State of Qatar and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime signed a supplementary agreement to establish the United Nations regional center for combating cybercrime in Doha, pointing out that the agreement confirms the strength of the partnership with the UN, and Qatar's role in supporting multilateral diplomacy and contribution to achieving the UN three goals and pillars - sustainable development, international peace and security, and human rights. The paper noted that the launch of the Doha center for combating cybercrime represents a Qatari initiative to support international efforts to confront cybercrime in all its forms and names and an achievement that reflects the active Qatari presence at the international level within the framework of its strategic partnership with the UN. Al Sharq stressed that the agreement also carries a very important message indicating that the State of Qatar is an active and reliable partner of the UN regarding strengthening the pillars of collective multilateral action to face the grave and diverse cross-border challenges.
In its editorial titled "Partnership grows stronger," the English-language The Peninsula said that the strategic partnership between Qatar and the UN is growing stronger with the passage of time as both sides are expanding the sphere of cooperation for global peace, prosperity, and stability. The paper pointed out that signing the important agreement between Qatar and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to establish the UN regional center for combating cybercrime in Doha is another proof of this strong partnership. It added that the signing of this agreement would allow the launch of the activities of the United Nations regional center for combating cybercrime during the next two months, and the center's activities cover the Middle East and North Africa region as well as capacity-building at the global level if needed. The center will also provide training and capacity-building for specialists in the countries of the region and in developing countries in general in the field of combating cybercrime, and this includes setting and planning policies and legislation to combat cybercrime and exchanging experiences and information on cybercrime variables at the national and international levels. On the Arab issue, Al Watan newspaper warned of the dangerous escalation by the government of the Israeli entity, which deliberately let the settlers attack the Palestinian people as a means of intimidation and ethnic cleansing to implement the plan to impose "Greater Israel" on all of historic Palestine by getting rid of the Palestinian people and confiscating land, inheritance, heritage, and resources. In this context, the newspaper referred to the statements of the former Palestinian leader and negotiator, Hanan Ashrawi, who described the field and political conditions in Palestine as very difficult, emphasizing that a political solution with the Israeli entity is excluded at present due to its implementation of its project based on the idea of acquiring Palestine.
