Pyongyang, May 17 (KCNA) -- In hearty response to the resolutions of the Seventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials and working people in the field of irrigation have made many successes in the efforts to rebuild and readjust the existing irrigation facilities and expand the area under irrigation.

This year, irrigation waterways extending more than 20 000km have been realigned and over 1 500 irrigation facilities built and remodelled across the country and a lot of pumping facilities improved.

Officials of the central command for irrigation construction, other commands at all levels and in the relevant fields the Agricultural Commission made a detailed survey of the irrigation facilities across the country and, on this basis, worked out an annual plan for readjustment and reinforcment and took timely measures for carrying it out.

In cooperation with relevant sectors and units, they organized the work for producing and supplying necessary materials and equipment, completing the construction of waterways, irrigation structures, groundwater facilities, expansion of capacity, pumping stations, etc. in the shortest possible time.

The officials and working people in the relevant sectors are devoting their wisdom and enthusiasm to consolidating the material and technical foundations of the field of irrigation, which is of key importance in attaining the goal of grain production this year. -0-
