Batirov medal win noted
Manama, Oct. 30 (BNA): Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant secretary general and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) secretary general Abdulrahman Askar commended the result of Bahraini wrestler Adam Batirov at the recently-concluded 2018 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The 33-year-old wrestler took the men’s 70kg freestyle silver medal, Bahrain’s maiden medal at the championship, after a 6-7 defeat to former world champion Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov of Russia in the final.
This was announced after Askar’s meeting with Batirov and his coach Eldar Eldarov, in presence of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation president Khalid Al Khayyat and BOC board member Ali Esaaqi.
Askar congratulated Batirov on this historic achievement, which he attributed to the hard working efforts of the federation, headed by Al Khayyat, as well as all the support from the sports leadership in Bahrain.
Askar said: "We are pleased with the outstanding result of Adam, which will push us to give more support to the federation to further develop the game in the near future. We wish our athletic heroes success in the upcoming competitions."
On his part, Al Khayyat dedicated the achievement to the sports leadership, led by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and expressed pride for such an honorable result, which has become a big motive for the federation to continue its march towards greater successes in the future.
