F1 Medical Services Team Working Round The Clock To Prepare For Big Race

SEPANG (Malaysia), March 20 (Bernama) -- Just like any other F1 team preparing for the Malaysian Formula One (F1) Grand Prix, the Malaysian F1 Medical Services team is also working round the clock to be ready for the race at the Sepang Circuit from March 23-25. Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (National Defence University of Malaysia) Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Wira Allatif Mohd Noor said 60 specialists and 240 paramedics would be on duty during the F1 together with 2 helicopters, 20 ambulances, 5 medical intervention vehicles and 4 small medical cars. Two surgical rooms, an intensive care unit (ICU), and three extrication teams would also be ready for any eventualities. "I believe, the commitment and professionalism shown by the medical team in previous races will continue, so as to provide efficient and effective medical services. "We should be proud because through the F1, Malaysia are known all over the world," he said in his speech at a F1 Medical Seminar here Tuesday. He said the excellent services provided by the Malaysian F1 Medical Services Team has gained international recognition and awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Standard Certification as well as international accreditation from UKAS (United Kingdom), COFRAC (France), SINCERT (Italy) and TGA (Germany). Also present were Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) President Tunku Muzaffar Tunku Mustapha and Chief Medical Officer of F1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, Major-Gen ProfDr Mohd Zin Bidin. "It can be quite catastrophic, with flying debris and possible explosions causing numerous injuries to the drivers and the spectators," Dr Mohd Zin had said. --BERNAMA
