Frankie Edgar – A Step Away From The UFC Title

Manama, June 1 (BNA): KHK MMA’s own Frankie "The Answer" Edgar is one step away from fighting for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight Title! Edgar is set to face the former featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 200 before possibly fighting against Connor McGregor. In less than three months time, Edgar and Aldo will face off for the interim title fight, set for July 9 in Las Vegas in what could form up to be the biggest pay-per-view in MMA History. You may rightfully wonder why Edgar was not given the title shot against McGregor right away. Edgar, who has a wealth of experience and indisputable talent, does not deserve to fight except for the title at this point. But between Edgar and Aldo, both of who believe they should have a shot at the title fight, how were they to pick? The answer is simple. UFC probably wants to give all its fans a little extra foreplay before getting to it. Edgar gets to match up with Aldo, while the current UFC featherweight champion Connor McGregor, will be busy facing Nick Diaz at 170 pounds, in an entertaining rematch on the same night. The bright side of the arrangement is that the winner of Egdar Vs Aldo will earn a definite shot at the title on a subsequent date! With the support of KHK MMA team, Edgar will calmly wait until the opportunity presents itself. Whatever fight comes his way, Bahrain is fully behind him and excitingly waiting to see him dominate the title fight that is his to come. In his previous fights, the Shaikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa himself was in this warrior’s corner. The UFC 200 fight is a rematch of the main event of UFC 156, which saw then-featherweight champion Aldo defeat Edgar by unanimous decision back in Feb. 2, 2013. Much has changed in the three years since the first meeting between the pair. Aldo is no longer champion, and Edgar has been tearing through the featherweight division. In his last five fights, Edgar has had two wins by knockout and one by submission. In his two unanimous decision victories, five of six judges awarded him every round. His most recent victory was a first-round knockout of Chad Mendes on Dec. 11, 2015. Aldo on the other hand needed five rounds and a judges’ decision to beat Mendes on Oct. 25, 2014 in what was his last win. Aldo then lost his title in a 13 second knockout against the current champion McGregor. This is rounding up to be an exhilarating road to the ‘Who can defeat the mad Irishman?’ title fight to come. Watch our very own FrankieEdgar enjoy a skillfully and highly entertaining bout of professionalism and support him as he bypasses Aldo to reach his destination. Courtesy: MEDIA OFFICE OF H.H.
