Indian Olumpic Assn calls Executive meeting to discuss IOC threat

New Delhi, Jan 23 (PTI) Faced with a threat from the International Olympic Committee to take action if it does not explain sacked Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi's status in the court cases, the Indian Olympic Association today decided to call a meeting of its Executives Board to discuss the issue. IOA Acting President Vijay Kumar Malhotra said in a statement that the meeting will be held at the earliest and its decision will be conveyed to the IOC. "Indian Olympic Association has called the meeting of its Executives Board to discuss the letter received by it from the International Olympic Committee and other important matters," Malhotra said in a release. He said he has asked the IOA Secretary General Randhir Singh to fix the date for the meeting as soon as possible. The decision to convene the meeting comes in the wake of an IOC letter to Malhotra seeking a report on Kalmadi's "current and exact situation before the courts of justice". The IOC had threatened to refer the case to its Ethics Commission at any moment, if the action taken by IOA is not satisfactory. Kalmadi, President of Indian Olympic Association, has been charged with corruption in conducting the 2010 Commonwealth Games of New Delhi. He was granted bail in the case by the Delhi High Court after spending nearly nine months behind bars. During this period, Malhotra officiated as IOA Acting President. Retaining his IOA presidentship, Kalmadi has now written to Malhotra to continue in the same post for the present. PTI
