Indonesia Inaugurates New Badminton Chief
Jakarta, Dec 14 (ANTARA) - Indonesia has officially installed new badminton chief to lead the country to regain its supremacy in the sport branch.
The Indonesia National Sports Committee (KONI) here on Friday officially inducted Gita Wirjawan as the new chief of the All Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI).
At a press conference after his inauguration Gita who is also minister of trade expressed his conviction that he could improve the country`s badminton performance.
"I believe by improving the management, training and compensation systems for players and coaches we would be able to realize it. That is the foundation," he said.
"I am ready to resign if I cannot deliver the aspiration," he added.
Gita was elected as the new PBSI chief by acclamation in the 21st congress in Yogyakarta on November 21, following the painful defeats of the Indonesian badminton players in the recent London Olympic Games.
To meet his ideals Gita has chosen several badminton legends to be members of the board including Susi Susanti, Rexi Mainaky and Ricky Soebagja.
"We hope we can regain Indonesia`s supremacy. We who have made a success will certainly be willing to restore the supremacy," Susi, the Olympic gold medalist in Barcelona in 1992, said.
