Iran volleyball team beaten by Brazil at worlds

TEHRAN, Dec. 3 (MNA) -- Iran lost to Brazil in straight sets on the first day of fourth-round action at the 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup on Friday. In the match held in Tokyo’s Yoyogi National Gym, Iran was defeated by Brazil 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-16). Brazilian Gilberto Godoy bagged 15 points, while Sidnei dos Santos added 14. Godoy was also named the most impressive player of the match. Arash Kamalvand and Hamzeh Zarini had eight points each for Iran. "I showed my players the matches of Brazil during the summer as an example of how to play. Today we played them and they could see the level we need to rise to,” Iran coach Julio Velasco said during the post-match news conference. “We improved in reception but our problem was our counterattack and defense. The Brazilian outfit was much better than us. They showed how to find the solution on difficult balls,” he added.
