Khalid bin Hamad's Race for Disabled Individuals pillar in sustainable development

Manama, Nov. 4 (BNA): Under the patronage of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Honourary President of the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation, the Second Charity Race for Disabled Individuals was organised by the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation, in cooperation with the Bahrain Triathlon Federation.
It was held behind the Bahrain National Stadium, Isa Sports City. The race corresponds with HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s initiatives, which aim to integrate disabled people with all segments of society.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the efforts made by the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation headed by Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, which significantly impacted preparations for this race, which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom. The race aims to promote the integration of disabled people into sports, especially running, which is practised daily by everyone at different ages, especially youth.
HH affirmed his support of disabled individuals, in implementation and translation of His Majesty the King’s directives to integrate them, so they may participate in building and developing this country.
Race Categories:
The event included several races, of which the main was a 3km general race for hearing and visually impaired contestants and those with mild mental and learning disabilities. Participants with motor disabilities and cerebral palsy were on bicycles and handcycles.
The event included a 1km race for the 11-13-year-olds, a 100m race for children aged 6-8 years, a 500m race for 9-10 age groups, and a final 200m race for individuals with Down Syndrome and mental disability.
