Kyrgyz triathlet overcomes half-ironman 70.3, raises funds to fight COVID-19

Bishkek, Apr. 27, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan's absolute triathlon champion Aivaz Omorkanov has overcome half-ironman at home. It was a charity event to raise funds to fight the coronavirus in the republic.
During the distance, over KGS 500 thousand (around USD 6,250) was raised, which will be sent to support medical workers, the press service of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports said.
His result made 4 hours and 55 minutes, excluding transit zones.
"Yes, we did it, the first Ironman 70.3 at home. I pass the baton to our neighbours, namely to Saltanat Kazybayeva, Kazakhstan's cool and famous triathlete, organizer of the Almaty Marathon," he wrote on his social media.
Famous athletes such as Vladislav Tretyak, Nikolai Valuyev, Konstantin Tszyu, Dmitry Bivol, Orzubek Nazarov, Denis Petrashov, Daria Maslova, Saltanat Kazybaeva, Head of the State Agency Kanat Amankulov, the athlete's father and Kyrgyzstan's Hockey Federation President Anvar Omorkanov joined Omorkanov's Instagram Live.
As of Apr. 27, 13 new cases of novel coronavirus infection have been identified in Kyrgyzstan, 695 in total, including 183 cases among medical workers.
395 people have recovered and discharged from hospitals, 8 have passed away.
