Match Against Liew Darren Was Most Interesting - Lin Dan

From Ainul Huda Mohamed Saaid WUHAN (China), May 28 (Bernama) -- Lin Dan described his match against young Malaysian player Liew Darren as the most interesting match he had played in the Thomas Cup finals held here. The world number two singles player said he appreciated the chance to play against youngsters like Liew Darren, whom he felt had the potential to go far if given the right exposure. "The media only gives attention to Lee Chong Wei while there are other younger players who should be highlighted. "They (young players) should be given more opportunities to play and prove their capability, only then will there be hope in the badminton arena," he told reporters after the Thomas Cup final at the Wuhan Sports Centre Gymnasium, here Sunday. In the match, Lin Dan defeated South Korean Lee Hyun Il 21-14, 21-17 to give China it's first point. China beat South Korea 3-0 to clinch their ninth Thomas Cup title. For the London Olympics in July, Lin Dan said he would focus on all his possible opponents and not just world number one singles player Datuk Lee Chong Wei. "Most of my opponents play more relaxed. Even though they get one point they consider it as an advantage. "However, I cannot be over confident and need to pay attention to each opponent so that I can do well in the Olympics just like I did in 2008," he said. -- BERNAMA
