Qatar 2022 / Australia, Denmark to Fight for Qualification Tomorrow
Doha, November 29 (QNA) - The Australian and Danish national teams are looking to qualify for the second round when they meet tomorrow, Wednesday at Al Janoub Stadium in the third and final round for Group D of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The second-placed Australian team seeks to qualify for the victory, as well as a draw if Tunisia fail to win against France, the defending champion, which is the first team to qualify for the second round of the World Championship.
The Australian national team won the first round against Tunisia 1-0, losing from France by 1-4.
Australia coach Graham Arnold, believes the match will not be easy against Denmark, however he has full confidence abilities of his players, even though some of them have never played before in the World Cup. Noting that the Australian people are proud of the national team which will play the match with the highest concentration to qualify and advance in the competition.
Coach Arnold, relies on many of his prominent players to achieve his qualification goal, including the veteran goal scorer of Glasgow Celtic, Scotland, Aaron Mooy, fellow defender, Billy Wright of Sunderland, England, and striker Jamie McLaren of Melbourne City.
Australian media reports indicated that the national team needed a better attacking focus, as in the time of veteran star Tim Cahill, the outstanding goal scorer in the team's history with 50 goals from 108 games, who had participated in four copies of the World Cup.
Australia, which is participating for the second time in row in a group including Denmark and France, and advanced in the group stage only once in the version hosted by Germany in 2006 before losing to Italy in the last 16.
However, the Danish team enters the game with a chance to win, picking up one point on their scoreless draw with Tunisia, then losing to France 1-2, thus having no choice but to win as the loss will end their hopes in the competition.
The Danes are counting on a brilliant line-up of many in-form stars in major European leagues, led by the French Club Nice goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel and fellow forward Casper Dolberg.
Denmark had advanced to the last 16 teams four times in years (1986, 1998, 2002 and 2018), and reached the quarter finals in 1998 FIFA World Cup, France.
Denmark met their Australian counterpart four times; the last game was in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and ended in a positive draw 1-1.
Denmark coach, Kasper Hjulmand, believes the team was not bad at meeting with their French counterparts, created many opportunities then, nonetheless there is an opportunity to perform at a better against Australia at tomorrow's match. (QNA)
