School players, athletes shine in European competitions

Kaiserslautern, Germany, May 24 (BNA): Bahrain School soccer team came third in the 2022 DODEA European Soccer Championships after winning five of its seven games over four days.
DODDS European Championships are a series of sports competitions taking place in Europe and are organized by the DODDS (Department of Defense Dependents Schools) system.
In their final game, they edged out Vicenza High School in a penalty shootout after the two teams were locked in a tie after regulation time, 20 minutes of overtime, and five penalties.
Falcon Goal Keeper Jacob Courts saved Vicenza’s sixth penalty and Falcon Striker Rafa Reynofafian kicked in the winning goal.
Throughout the tournament, team captains Peter Sullivan and Mason Leach led the players on and off the field, Coach Emiliano Herrera said.
Two of the Bahrain School players, Peter Sullivan and Leon Odongo, were named to the All-Tournament Team.
In the track competition, all the athletes performed outstandingly in their individual and team events, and Bahrain School came third in District 2.
Aspen Cardoza was third in long jump overall and sixth in high jump.
“The best part about the trip was to hear other coaches and parents say how encouraging, supportive and nice the Bahrain School athletes were,” their coaches said.
“Their inspirational attitude towards their own team and other competitors was praised. They showed true spirit, pride and they were excellent examples of upstanding character. Building and expressing that character means so much more than anything else.”
