KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's shuttler Liew Daren advanced to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open championship after beating Portugal's Martin Pedro in Basel, Switzerland, early Friday morning. It appeared to be a tough match for the 25-year-old when he struggled to beat Pedro 19-21, 21-13 and 21-10 in 61 minutes in the third round match. Daren is to take on world number five, Chen Jin, on Saturday. Meanwhile, mixed pair Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying were through to the quarter-finals after demolishing Germany's Peter Kaesbauer/Johanna Goliszewski 21-16 and 24-22 in 33 minutes. The world number nine from Malaysia will meet first seed Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia. Malaysian men's doubles Goh V Shem/Teo Kok Siang staged an upset against top seeds Chai Biao/Guo Zhendong of China, 21-17 and 21-18. Goh/Teo are scheduled to meet Alvent Yulianto Chandra/Hendra Aprida Gunawan of Indonesia. National women's doubles Chin Eei Hui/Wong Pei Tty are set to take on Christinna Pedersen/Kamilla Rytter Juhl from Denmark in the quarter-finals after outclassing their rival from Thailand, Duanganong Aroonkesorn/Kunchala Voravichitchaikul, 21-10, 10-21 and 23-21 in the third round today.
