Tokyo Olympics 2020: Mutaz Barshim Writes Qatar's History and Guides Qatar to the Gold

Tokyo, August 01 (QNA) - Qatar's high jumper Mutaz Barshim has finally added the Olympic gold medal to his haul, after his bronze medal at London 2012 Olympics and the silver medal of Rio 2016 Olympics. Barshim, is a two-times world champion, after winning the high jump gold medal in London 2017 and retained the title in Doha 2019. The Qatari champion won the gold medal of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with an effort of 2.37M at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday. Barshim, 30, was graduated from Aspire Academy. He is holder of the second highest jump in the history with a record of 2.43M, only two centimeters behind Cuban Javier Sotomayor's world record mark of 2.45 set in 1993. Commenting on his historic victory on Sunday, Barshim expressed pride for winning the high jump gold medal of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, appreciating the support of the Qatari people. Barshim noted that the gold medal was the fruit of 10 years of hard work, perseverance and sacrifice, looking forward to breaking the world record. (QNA)
