UAE won presidency of Asian Jiu Jitsu Union

Abu Dhabi: Abdulmuniem Al Hashmi, the President of the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation, has won Asia's top post of the Asian Jiu Jitsu Union (AJJU), adding another feather in the UAE's cap of sports achievements.
The UAE contestant won the elections on Sunday by acclamation after all Asian Jiu Jitsu bodies selected the UAE to host the seat of the new federation in the hope the UAE would take the martial art to new heights.
Delegates held the view that the UAE deserved to host the headquarter of the new federation for the role the it has played in pushing the sport forward in the Middle East and the incessant support lent to the game by His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Heads of Asian delegations and representatives of Asian and international federations also admitted that Sheikh Mohamed's substantial support has gone beyond UAE boundaries to develop and promote the sport worldwide.
They said that they were following with pride and satisfaction HH's patronage of the sports and this generous support has developed it in a significant way and provided the new federation with fresh bloods.
Fahad Al Shamsi, member of the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation, was selected as secretary general of the Asian federation, Kuwait's Sheikh Fahad Talal Al Sabah was named first deputy president in addition to five deputies president of the Asian regions. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
