Beijing Tops China Innovation Competitiveness

By Samantha Tan Chiew Ting BEIJING, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- China's capital tops in innovation competitiveness among 29 Chinese provincial-level regions, according to the Information Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government. According to the China Innovation Development Report 2015 co-released by the Research Centre for Technological Innovation, Tsinghua University and Social Sciences Academic Press, it said Shanghai and Jiangsu, both in east China, followed Beijing in the ranking. Beijing tops in innovation environment indexes, including per capita gross domestic product (GDP), per capita information communication technology investment, number of employees with college diploma. It also includes enterprises (annual business revenues above 20 million yuan) with research and development (R&D) capabilities and rate of technology fund allocation in public finance expenditure, it reported on its website Friday. The municipal said Beijing also ranked first in innovation resources, which include R&D expenditures, the percentage of R&D expenditures in GDP, per capital R&D expenditures, full-time equivalent of R&D personnel, number of R&D personnel per 1,000 people. Beijing also tops in innovation achievements, which include number of patents approval per 10,000 people, number of patent of invention per 10,000 people, number of patent of invention per 1,000 R&D personnel, number of patent approval per million yuan investment, number of technology-related papers referenced by foreign retrieval tools and number of technology-related papers per 1,000 R&D personnel.
