Empower achieves significant gains in its summer’s campaign recording 19.6% reduction in district cooling consumption in August alone

DUBAI, 10th September, 2015 (WAM) -- Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation, Empower, has achieved 19.6% reduction in district cooling consumption in August, 2015, compared to the same period last year, as a result of its summer campaign ‘Set to 24c and Save’, that commenced at the start of the summer. This campaign supports environmental sustainability and strengthens the rationalisation of energy consumption in Dubai. "In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the importance of preserving energy resources, and the need to educate all society segments on energy conservation, Empower continues to support the philosophy of optimum utilisation of natural resources and supports sustainable development plans to achieve His Highness’ vision," said Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower. "We succeeded in achieving a significant decrease in consumption of district cooling as part of our ‘Set to 24c and Save’ campaign. The statistics shows major reduction in end-user consumption, which means the summer campaign succeeded in raising awareness among customers." "Despite the higher customers’ base we have this year compared to last year, we have succeeded in reaching a larger segment of them during this campaign, and consolidating their commitment to use district cooling services rationally," added Bin Shafar. At the beginning of summer, Empower launched a large-scale campaign that will last until the end of September, considering this as a peak time of usage throughout the year in the region. The campaign included tips on how to reduce consumption bills, which will reflect positively on the environmental impact as well as on the customer. Empower supports environmental sustainability initiatives in Dubai. The company accounts for about 70% of district cooling services in the Emirate of Dubai. "Our efforts aim to raise the standards of district cooling globally, by adopting the environment sustainability mechanisms in all operations. We always strive to adopt the highest green standards in developing new cooling plants. This double-confirms the district cooling role as the ideal alternative to conventional cooling systems as far as reducing the environmental footprint is concerned," concluded Bin Shafar. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/economics/1395285314810.html
